Because They’re Worth Remembering
Direct quote from Beckett, the kid who cried actual tears recently because “mom PLEASE stop dancing in the car. it’s very unsafe to dance while operating a vehicle!”: “Since I’m 5 now, can I just be one of the parents?” He is – by far – the most responsible adult in our home. He is always reminding me of the rules to ensure a safe and just home. He is also always soaking up everything around him and asking ridiculously mature and insightful questions.
The Blessing of Quarantines
If you would have asked me before last Monday how adding a third kid has been, I would have sheepishly answered, “Great, actually.” It’s been an unnervingly smooth transition so far. Maybe it’s because my last newborn shot vomit across the room 873 times a day and this one doesn’t. Maybe it’s because having 2 boys is already insane enough that adding a third is no big deal. Maybe it’s because kid #3 is completely immobile. Whatever the case may be, the first 4 weeks were a breeze. Truly. And then Monday. A while back a friend of mine shared with me about the existential crisis he experienced after his third baby was born. “I couldn’t physically…
On being a Stay-at-Home Mom
I go to brush my teeth this morning and have to move fake celery out of the sink first. I would’ve moved the cars, but they and their toddler driver shower with me 9 out of 10 mornings anyway, so I just scoot them aside for later. After showering, I walk into the living room. We’ve been awake for 30 seconds and it is already covered in miscellaneous toys. I turn on Daniel Tiger so I can make breakfast. You can’t even tell what’s happening on the screen because of the greasy hand prints everywhere. Unbeknownst to my 2 year old, the television is not touchscreen. It’s 7:15am. Too early…
Assisted Treating & Zoo on the Loose
I dropped B-boy off at school the other day and planned to come home and clean. You cannot even imagine how gross this house had gotten. I’m not really sure what happened, but somehow my car drove straight to the pedicure place instead. By way of the donut shop. The donut shop and then the pedicure place. Fine, I am sure what happened. Treat yo’ self, you guys. A book proposal, Halloween, 7th grade sleepover, and a zoo trip down…I justified an hour of R&R. And donuts. Don’t judge me. Listen…I know that we’re well into Christmas season (looking at you, Starbucks red cups), but let’s slow our roll. I…
Silver Alert & Toddler God
Tuesday night: Stand at a red light waiting for the crosswalk. Pick a wedgie with one hand, wave to a family from church with the other. That’s the story of my existence, in 2 sentences. (Yea, I shouldn’t have picked a wedgie at a busy intersection, but I had been running and my shorts needed adjusting. And I had the cover of darkness. And I probably just shouldn’t be allowed to leave the house, ever.) Silver Alert We lunched at Chick-fil-a today (see list below for the humor there) and Beckett, my creative genius, turned the table topper into a hat. It was funny or whatever I guess, but I…
Ordinary meets extraordinary.
Serious Tuesday post time. I’m not really sure why Tuesday, it just seems like a good day to be introspective. Last Serious Tuesday post, I wrote about why I wanted to adopt. In the post, I mentioned the blog, Kisses from Katie. A precious (and super hilarious) lady at church gave me a copy of Katie’s book a few weeks ago. I must confess how negligent of a parent I was the day I started reading it, because I absolutely could not put it down. Beckett got some quality bonding time in with his swing, bouncer, toys…pretty much anything to keep him occupied while momma read her book. It’s an…
Punch Bowl, Adult Movies, & Blessings
I started to write a Thanksgiving post, and, well that didn’t get published. It’s hard to top the Halloween costume story and I’ve been quite nervous to post again. I just don’t really know how these things happen to me, but I shall now entertain you with two more “This would only happen to Sarah – and apparently now Taylor, too” stories. Punch Bowl A few weeks ago, I was at an import store (you know – the kind that you really don’t like to shop at but has really good prices and is coincidentally where all the “cute” places actually get their merchandise) in Dallas trying to pick up…
Nashvegas, YAM, & Cheryl
Nashvegas Whew, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. Oops. Taylor and I had somewhat of a sibling reunion this past weekend with his two sisters and brother-in-law in Nashville. It was quite possibly the funnest weekend we’ve had in a while. His middle sister and her husband are going to Chile in January, so we had a Labor Day festival at his oldest sisters’ house. We went to vineyards, ice cream shops, lounges, church, Mexican food…I recommend you look at my album on Facebook. I’m not gonna lie – we’re pretty fun. YAMs at The Hills A new ministry started at our church – the Young Adults Ministry (YAM!).…
