Another BOY!

She had a name. She would be Finley Hope, and she would be perfect. She’d be the perfect amount girly without being swallowed alive by ruffles or wearing headbands 3x the size of her face. (It’s how we do in Texas.)

So when the sonographer informed me she was actually a he, I was shocked. Absolutely shocked. I tried to argue, but…peenie. Can’t argue with the evidence.

Several months later, out came our baby boy, Wilson Beckett Brooks.

I never could have imagined how fun life with a boy would be. He is the happiest, dirtiest, stinkiest little bundle of joy I’ve ever seen. He is so easy to entertain. He spends hours driving the same car the same way on the same rug in the same living room. He likes grass and dirt and rocks and every kind of animal. He is all boy.

This past May, we found out we were pregnant with a second pint-sized Brooks.

And she had a name. She would be Harper Rose, and she would be perfect. She’d be the perfect amount girly without being swallowed alive by ruffles or wearing headbands 3x the size of her face.

So when the sonographer informed me she was actually a he, I was shocked. Absolutely shocked. I tried to argue, but…peenie. Can’t argue with the evidence.

Several months from this moment, out will come our second baby boy, __________ Brooks. (Currently taking suggestions.)

…clearly the “mother’s intuition” portion of my brain is missing, but it’s whatever because

I am so excited.

I’m excited to have another boy to love and clean up after. I can’t wait to wash his feet multiple times a day because they’re inexplicably sweaty and stinky. I can’t wait to watch him play in dirt and spend hours driving the same car on the same rug in the same living room. I can’t wait for round 2 of my favorite baby boy clothes. The first round went by entirely too fast.

I’m excited for Beckett to have a little brother. I pray they will be the best of friends. Built-in playmates. I can’t wait until they scheme together and gang up on me.

I’m excited to raise boys with Taylor as their dad. Taylor is the nicest, most loyal, most caring, most faithful man. He provides and loves and…all I’m saying is this: If my boys end up being anything like my husband, it’s not too early for mom’s of daughters to start forming an orderly, single-file line. The Brooks boys will be excellent men.

I’m excited to be a boy mom who a) learns about sports in order to b) sit through baseball games and football scrimmages. And who buys season passes to LEGOLAND and the science museum.

I was probably more surprised this time around that we were having a boy because nearly every pregnant person I know is having a boy. Their second boy, for the most part. The odds were certainly not in my favor.

Well, that and the size difference in my pregnancies. I didn’t look pregnant this time until about 7 seconds ago, and even still it’s a little questionable. I don’t even know. (Although I have a feeling reducing my Arby’s and Dorito consumption might have something to do with it.)

Other than the future inconvenience of having to order in a wife from another country for our younger son due to the girl shortage in the U.S. in 2014, we’re beyond happy about a second boy.

And from what we could see on the sonogram, he looks identical to every other baby sono picture I’ve ever seen.

See what I mean? Identical. All of them. You’re deceiving yourself if you think otherwise.

But I imagine he’ll be as handsome as his daddy and big bro in real, non-sonogram life.

My favorite part about him so far? Chicken legs.

He has plenty of time to put some delicious rolls on those bad boys, but in the meantime…don’t they make you smile? Little toothpicks.

For those of you who ask if Beckett understands about the baby, this is a conversation we had on Monday.

So, yea, I think he gets the gist. (Also, I should upload videos where his pronunciation is clearer to show just how genius he really is. “Brother” is hard, ok?!)

Two boys! My boys!

We are blessed beyond measure. By our boys, by our marriage, by our family…and by the countless friends in our lives who love our boys as much as they love us.

Little dude #2, what will you be like?! Will you contend with your older brother for the title “whitest kid on the planet”? Or will you have dark hair and eyes? Will you be abnormally happy, too? Will you be laid-back? Hyper? Smart? Athletic? Musical? An introvert like daddy? An extrovert like mommy?

Hurry up and get some meat on those legs so you can come out of there. We can’t wait to meet you.

Congrats! I always think a boy should have a brother and a girl should have a sister! Beckett is going to LOVE him! I have a l-o-n-g list of baby names…do you want to stick with “B” names? -Elizabeth McAnally

I agree! Pairs are always good. I think. I’ll let you know how that plays out in real life, haha.

More importantly – I need some names from you ASAP! We aren’t just using B names, but we’re not opposed to a B name. Whatcha got for us?!

(I should point out that some portion of his name will be Smith.)

So delighted for you!!! I have three boys and they are all different! The two closer in age to each other (21ms apart) get along better than the older two (3 yrs apart) so hopefully you will find the same with your boys so close. I’m not going to tell you my boys’ names, because they just don’t “sound right” with Beckett, so I’m going to offer you names of these great brothers in my church: Daxton (Dax), Ezra, Zebulan (Zeb) 🙂
